I have recently updated my main Windows 11 PC to 25H2 without too much hassle.

However the requirements have changed a little form what you may expect Additionally to the CPU meeting the original minimum requirements for running Windows 11 for 25H2 it will need to support a new feature called SSE 4.2 CPU instruction set.
SSE 4.2 is widely supported by the modern CPU, as it was introduced by Intel in 2008 and AMD in 2011. It supports an instruction call POPCNT. The POPCNT (population count) instruction is a CPU instruction that quickly counts the number of set bits (1s) in a number’s binary representation. It has applications in various fields, including cryptography, Microsoft want to support enhanced encryption so they deem it essential.
So, if you have an older CPU and have used a work around you may find that you cannot update to a newer version, although it remain to be seem if yet another work around surfaces. As far as I can tell this should not affect security updates that do not require this feature. I have other Windows machines that don’t have the SSE 4.2 instruction set and they seem to function well so far.
