{"id":177,"date":"2017-06-06T18:06:09","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T18:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/?p=177"},"modified":"2017-07-27T09:30:34","modified_gmt":"2017-07-27T09:30:34","slug":"ssid-cant-be-seen-by-some-devices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/?p=177","title":{"rendered":"SSID can&#8217;t be seen by some devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently had a laptop with <strong>Windows 10<\/strong> that had been working on WiFi but after rebooting the router it\u00a0would no longer show the\u00a0Service Set Identifier (SSID) in the list of available WiFi networks. \u00a0Other devices could see it, all except the laptop and the laptop could see some other WiFi networks in the vicinity.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>WiFi has been problematic with some WiFi adapters since <strong>Windows 8<\/strong> and I have seen similar problems previously, mostly related to the channel that WiFi is broadcasting on. \u00a0Some adapters, with some drivers seem to be unable to scan the higher channels, typically above 12 seems to be the problem. \u00a0Some routers are configured to set the channel automatically which means it can change when you reboot. \u00a0First thing is to see if you can change things in your adapter <strong>properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/adapterproperties.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-178 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/adapterproperties.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/adapterproperties.png 363w, https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/adapterproperties-233x300.png 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Choose <strong>Configure<\/strong> and look for settings that might fix the problem. \u00a0Also updating the driver may provide a solution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/configure.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-179 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/configure.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/configure.png 400w, https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/configure-264x300.png 264w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my case this did not fix the problem. \u00a0However, if you have access to the router you can change the channel that it broadcasts on.<\/p>\n<p>First you should find out what channels you can see and which channels are in use near to your location. \u00a0I use Xirrus WiFi Inspector which you can get by clicking\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xirrus.com\/inspector\/\">here<\/a>: \u00a0Others are available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-180 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1125\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector.png 1125w, https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector-768x451.png 768w, https:\/\/t3x.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/inspector-1024x601.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the example above you can see which channels are busy.
